A Gnome for All Seasons

Well it's the 200th post to the Gnomish Embassy. I've sort of dithered, considered, plot, and schemed. With that in mind, I thought I could take a moment and look for a Gnome for all seasons. Part character sketchpad, part an 'Around the Horn' episode. Let's look at our Gnomes throughout the season.

Winter: Tamblyn Toadsire; Gnome Merchant, FUDGE

Brief: It's the heart of winter and the Great Saltmarsh rides a nervous fellow a top of a dire badger. Tamblyn Toadshire, the Mushroom merchant. He sells them as food, he sells them as medicine, he even sells them to the right buyer as a weapon. Crops might wither and fall during frost, but mushrooms in some form continue on. One of the few companions Tamblyn seems to rely on is Hildy, his badger mount. Other than her, most of Tamblyn's associates are merchants and sometimes rogues who Tamblyn trusts as far as he can throw them.

Spring: Celestia Skysprinter; Gnomish Pilot, Savage Worlds

Brief: With spring's thaw washes over the world, the great airships and biplanes of the are no longer grounded by weather. In those times, it can be dark days ahead when the Magocracy Shard launches attacks against Scarabae with their arcane powered 'Crystalcraft'. Fortunately, the Gnome daredevils fly the friendly skies in defense of the exiled island. Their craft are rickety and sometimes their rockets do not work, but Scarabae owes some of it's revolutionary freedom to pilots such as Celestia Skysprinter.

Summer: Edwina Greystar; Gnome Rebel, White Star Xeno

Brief: As Summer turns up the heat, perhaps one can take some cool comfort in the void of space, such as the White Star setting. There, one can meet the Gnomes of Tanenbaum.

Gnomes are a race that lack brute strength, mystical powers, or the deceptive innocence of the Yabnab. What they do make bring to the table, especially for the rebellion fighting against the Galactic Consortium, is technical prowess and the ability to use their size for defensive capabilities. Edwina is both a Gnome and a staunch rebel against the Consortium. She helps lead the fight against the Consortium's grip on her home planet of Tanenbaum and uses the natural shades of blue and black that make up Tanenbaum's inhabitants to launch ambushes and raids against the invading Consortium off-worlders.

Autumn: Bedevere Strangeways; Gnome Survivalist, Breachworld - Ravenhurst, New England

Brief: It is agreed among members of BRAC's (Breach Research and Closure) North American branch that New England, from northern Pennsylvania right into what was Maine is nearly a lost cause. The breach centered around Arrowhead, Maine seems to emanate negative psychic energy that twists the realm and makes things unseemly. The bodies of the recently deceased affected by this energy have arisen to attack the living. Creatures, the stuff of legend and nightmare, roam the backwoods and streets the terrify the living. Among one of the Xeno denizens to have emerged and helped combat the horrors that have flooded into the Breachworld is one Bedevere Strangeway of what is now 'Ravenhurst Fortress'. Bedevere is a product of his homeworld cruelty- his face is slashed, his eyes glow an unseemly red. But such scar are a small price compared to the power he wields, for not only is Bedevere a monster hunter, he is an Epic to boot. He'll need all of that power to muster- with Autumn's chill brings terrible creatures through the Arrowhead Breach to grip the world in terror.

Powers

Lantern
TN: 10 / Duration: 1 hour / Range: Self / Resisted: None

Conjures a floating torch of yellow light that follows the caster for the duration of the spell. The spell can be snuffed out as a free action by the caster, but requires another power check to reactivate.

Rune Axe
TN: 19 / Duration: 1 hour / Range: Self / Resisted: None

Bedevere creates a powerful axe out of aether that serves as a main weapon. This axe adds +3D damage to Might and, because its composition of aether energy rather than the physical, ignores the -5 that accompanies being small. The weapon must be in the hand of the caster. If it is released, the aether weapon returns to the air and vanishes, requiring another summon.
