Savage Worlds: Special Materials

In this post, let's take a look at various fantastical materials, their effects, and generally most important to the traveling adventurer: their cost.

Always Sharp
Adamantium
aka Star Metal

Brief: Adamantium is known to come from meteorites that crash onto the planet and are typically recovered and sold to Dwarves. Regency of the Mountains, the Lortmils, the Great Rift, all of these locales maintain special workshops to heat and forge Adamantium, typically into either weapons or plate mail as it works best as a solid piece of armor rather than segmented into chains.

A full set of Adamantium Plate is roughly $5050 and includes a full plate set and helmet, each adding +1 Toughness to the wearer. Unlike normal armor, toughness cannot be reduced by armor piercing weapons.

Adamantium Weapons are treated as either Silver or Cold Iron for the purposes of getting past resistances.

Cold Iron
aka: Planarfoe, Fey-blight, Demonkiller

Brief: Typically forged by Dwarves, Cold Iron is used to forge weapons meant to aid warriors fighting against planar beings. This includes the Arch-Fey, whose wild hunts can spill into the prime material bringing chaos, demons or fiends who wish to bring ruin to mortals. Weapons made of Cold Iron can bypass the flesh of planar beings.

Dragonscale
aka [Color of Dragon]scale

Mithril
aka White Gold, Truesilver

Brief: Gathered in flowing molten streams in Dwarven keeps and forged by Elven chain smiths is the precious metal, Mithril. Mithril is of course particularly valued due to how light the metal is without sacrificing it's protective ability. When Mithril is not being used to line hallways or for statues, it's typically found in either Chain Shirts, Chain Hauberks, Breastplates, and Full Plate sets.

Silver
aka: Hunter's Iron, Undeadbane

Brief: Silver is one of the more common ores found, mined, and forged by Dwarves and typically sold to Elves who like the look for their silverware. Silver is prized by hunters of the undead and lycanthropes, as the metal is said to be blessed by the Divines as the iron that can slay them. Lycanthropes are said to be able to smell silver, so that they may know fear.
