Giff: Giff are bestial humanoids with thick dark grey or light blue hide and a head in the shape of a river dwelling hippopotamus. They are known as hardy soldiers, loyal to their respective companies and adventuring parties. The homeworld of Giff has long be lost, scattering the Giff people to the celestial winds. Giff are instead organized by military unit or mercenary company. They fight for coin and prestige rather than nation. While Giff are generally Lawful Neutral and not necessarily beholden to 'Good' aligned martial endeavors, they avoid outright evil contracts. Giff are loyal to the contracts they do sign, a major break in the contract is if they are being ordered to attack other Giff. It's a longstanding rule that Giff shall not attack Giff over a contract. Buyers should beware as Giff are likely to break ranks and join their brothers and sisters, or they may even form up and attack both sides of the conflict until they are paid to leave. Giff also have a love for firearms. They really love cannons and muskets and enjoying firing them. Their most famous ship contribution is the Great Bombard, a ship with a giant cannon built as the prow.
Traits (D&D 3.5)
Attributes: +4 Strength, -2 Dexterity, -2 Intelligence, -2 Wisdom - Giff are Strong, but they are not the most adroit. They are also known as being somewhat dull minded and not always the most wisest. There are exceptions, but most Giff distinguish themselves for bravery over clever tactics.
Natural Armor +2 - Giff have a tough hide that allows them to absorb a lot of punishment before suffering a major injury.
Natural Attack (Head Bash): This Natural Attack deals 1d6 + Strength damage. If a Giff make their headbutt attack coupled with a Charge, the Giff's damae increases to 2d6 + 1.5 x Strength bonus.
Darkvision: Giff see in total darkness up to 60 ft. albeit in a greyscale.
Giff Skills: Giff have a +2 in Craft (Armor Smith), Intimidate, & Survival
Prerequisite: 3rd level
Giff have always had large buildings, even though they are often classified as medium characters. Some Giff, through nutrition and exercise, grow a little bit bulkier and become Large characters.
Large characters have -1 AC, -4 Hide, and +4 to Grapple checks vs. medium or smaller creatures. Their lifting and carrying bonuses are doubled compared to medium characters.
Strong: +2 Strength
Natural Armor: Add +1 AC due to tough hides
Darkvision: Can see 60 ft. in total darkness albeit in greyscale
Headbash: Natural Attack that deals 1d6 + Strength damage.
Giff get a +2 Strength
Special Abilities: Darkvision. +1 AC due to tough hide. Headbutt gives them a natural attack that deals 1d6 + Strength.
